What have Nursery been up to?

We dug up our potatoes today, 184!

The ground has been so hard we were surprised that we had any!

A huge thank you to Mr Boltwood - we wouldn't have been able to dig them up without you.

Fantastic dragon dancing today.

The children have been using the maps to plan their journey. Unfortunately, sometimes the train needs repairs and is out of use. Luckily the children are able to fix any problems.
The children are enjoying the 'Busy Finger' challenge of making a boat using corks and elastic bands.
Our new topic is transport. The children have been very busy creating their own art work.
We have also created our very own train, with a café and ticket office. Where will we travel today?

Welcome back to the Spring Term

We would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year. We return to school on Monday the 8th January at 8.45

Nursery Nativity

The children performed like little shining stars. We are so proud of each and every one of them. Well done children.
Its been a busy week in Nursery. The children have been using the musical instruments to play the rhythm of the Christmas songs.
We have been decorating Christmas trees using tweezers and pompoms.
The children have been creating their own maps.
X marks the spot.
What treasure do you think they found?
The children have been enjoying the cold weather. It has been very exciting exploring the ice thats created overnight.

The children have enjoyed using the enormous boxes in their role play.

The fire brigade visited today and showed us what they wear when they have to work in the water and how they stay safe in fires. They also told us about the importance of smoke alarms.
Thank you Red Watch from Cheshunt Fire Station - the children really enjoyed this morning.

We hope you all enjoyed the continental breakfast this morning.

Today was our last stay and play this year and breakfast was a little 'thank you' for all your support.

The Day the Dinosaurs Visited.

Today, 18.6.18, the children had a dinosaur workshop where they found out about Dinosaurs and the fossils they have left behind. The children became archeologists and carefully used the brushed to remove the sand and grit gently. Slowly they found a variety of fossils that were hidden. As they uncovered the fossil they were able to make predictions about what they thought they could see: teeth, claws, hors, tails, skulls, etc.

We found out about carnivores (meat eaters), herbivores (plant eaters) and that those we thought were flying dinosaurs were flying reptiles! The ones in the sea were sea mammals – not dinosaurs at all! We were very surprised at this information.

After our fossil hunting we had a special assembly where we met Jack the baby dinosaur and Sophie the 7-year-old dinosaur.

We pretended we were all T-Rex's and showed our teeth and held up our 2 claws.

Its been very exciting returning to our garden today  The children were very excited to see how much the plants had grown. We also had lots of ripe red strawberries. There were 21! They tasted delicious.

This week we have been thinking about the story of Hansel and Gretel. The children have been finding decorated stones in local parks so we painted our own. The children followed a trail made of their stones (like in the fairytale). We also followed each other along the track. The track was like a trail too. At the end of the stone trail we found a house, unfortunately it was not made of sweets but it had sweets inside - yum. While we were enjoying the sweets a little visitor came to say hello - a squirrel.

Today we opened the new path that allows us to go through the wild area. The area now has a log pile, we look forward to lots of wildlife coming to live there.

2 very special visitors came today from the Metropolitan Police. They spoke to the children about how to stay safe. The children found out how important the police are and that they are there to help them. The children were very lucky and got to wear official police hats and hold handcuffs.

The children have been growing runner beans. They are in clear pots so they could see the roots and shoots. They have started sprouting very quickly. They will be bringing them home this week - please plant them in the soil and give them a stick to climb up to help support the stem. Keep us informed of the growth - I wonder whose will be the tallest. Jacks (in our story) reached the clouds!

Can the children remember the names of parts of the plant?

In our PE with Mr Edwards we worked on our bouncing and catching skills. We worked with a partner and had lots of fun. After this we focussed on our throwing and catching.

Our challenge at the end was to "pass and move."

Ask your child about this activity - can they show you what they have been learning?

This week we had a new growing trellis attached to our growing boxes. This will enable the climbing plants to grow. We have planted a wide range of vegetables; runner beans, marrow, butternut squash, carrots, parsnips and beetroot. Ask you child what seeds they think will grow first.

Thank you for all your support in our fundraising scavenger hunt. We hope you had as much fun and enjoyment as the children.

When we returned to the Nursery we all enjoyed cutting the enormous watermelon and eating it up. It was juicy and delicious - yum, yum.

A taster of the activities we enjoy at Nursery in our garden.

This week we have been looking at the book "Oliver's Fruit Salad."

Today we made our own fruit salad.

Ask your child what fruit we put in the salad. What was their favourite?

Welcome back to the Summer Term. This week we have been developing our new role play area: A fruit and Vegetable shop. The children have been enjoying writing a shopping list before they go shopping.

Fantastic Easter Bonnets for the parade. Thank you for your support.

The children had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny too.

We return to school on 16.4.17 at 8.45.

Please pop in and see our special visitors. The children are very excited.

Easter bonnet parade is Thursday the 29th of April. We look forward to seeing your Easter bonnets.

We took our bears on a journey to the moon, just like baby bear in the story 'Whatever Next.' We landed on the moon and had a picnic with baby bears favourite foods.

Ask your child how we travelled? Some clues include; using moon boots, moon craters and buggies.

Happy Mothers Day to you all.

We hope you enjoy your handmade cards and presents.

Now that the weather has improved the children have helped to plant potatoes into the growing containers in the garden. Ask you child how many we planted? What do they think will happen?

The children have been very interested by the soot that baby bear was covered in when he went up the chimney. We have found out about how soot is made. Ask your child about our story "Whatever Next."

Celebrating World Book Day.

Thank you for the supporting this day. The children looked fantastic in their costumes.

We are off to the moon with Baby Bear in our new role play area. What will happen on our adventures?

The children worked together to collect snow to make a snowman.

Introducing Andrew the Snowman the new member of our class.

Fun with the ice and snow

Today in outdoor learning we explored different textures. The children worked with a partner to take rubbings of the diffferent surfaces. Once the paper was covered in rubbings, the paper was folded into paper aeroplanes.

Ask your child how far their plane flew.

"Gung Hay Fat Choy."

Happy Chinese New Year.

The children have enjoyed their Chinese role play area, eaten Chinese food and learnt all about the different animals. Can they remember what year it is now?

We look forward to our dragon dancing tomorrow.

The children have been problem solving in the garden to create ramps for their cars and balls to travel along.

The children have enjoyed the train magazines in the station café.

Thank you to all the parents that have donated tickets and magazines.
