What have Reception been up to?

It has been an exciting few weeks since we came back after half term. Our new topic is Colour and Pattern and will be followed by Christmas.

We have started the term creating firework bursts with paint and learning the firework chant.

We have also been finding out about the festival of Diwali and the children really enjoyed the story of Rama and Sita. In our learning we made Rangoli patterns and explored symmetry. We also used clay to make little diva lamps.

The children also enjoyed making a 100 poppies to remember all those who had fought in the war.

It has been lovely to see so many of the parents at our 'Working Together' mornings. The children really do enjoy it and its an opportunity to see some of the things we do in school.

Autumn is arriving and in our outdoor learning sessions the children have been collecting and comparing leaves. They have noticed the changes in colour and also that leaves are different shapes and sizes. This week we collected leaves and made autumn crowns. We also had a visit from Mr. Boultwood, who had found a lost hedgehog. We made him comfortable in our hedgehog home in the wood. We hope he stays.

It has been a busy few weeks and we are pleased to see so many children coming in on their own. Well done.

This last week the children have been exploring their senses both indoors and outside. Great fun has been had with listening games and tasting different foods.  Ask them if they can name all 5 senses.

In PE the children have been developing their ball skills and this week they had to really focus and see if they could bounce the ball.

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit. Please see photo .

Welcome to the Reception. It has been a busy few weeks and it is lovely to see all the children settling in so well. They are coping very well with lunchtimes and enjoying new experiences in PE, outdoor learning and ICT.

The Gruffalo trail trip was a great success. The children really enjoyed taking part in all the activities, especially hide and seek

Outdoor Learning

Today we were looking at all the different natural colours in the school and creating a rainbow journey of them on our journey card.

We started on the school field, then went to the meadow and orchard before finishing our hunt in the woods.

The children were only allowed on this occasion to pick a small part of the plant. During our walk we stopped and named the items on our journey card and their colours.

At the end they had a beautiful rainbow of colours from around the school

Reception had their first yoga lesson with Michael. It was great fun learning some new games and yoga poses.

See if your child can show you 'stick' position, 'good sitting' and the bird yoga pose.

We would like to wish you all a Happy Easter and thank you for the fabulous bonnets that made our Easter  Bonnet parade a great success. Everyone who saw them thought they were amazing.

The children also went into the woods for an egg hunt. They found the golden egg which led us to a biscuit treat.

We had another wonderful performance from The Little Angel Theatre. The children thoroughly enjoyed 'WOW its Night time '.

We will follow this up next week in outdoor learning and look for animals in their habitats.

Happy New Year and welcome back to the spring term. Its hard to believe that we are already in our third week. Our topic this half term is Fairy Tales and the children have already enjoyed listening and exploring activities related to The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Goldilocks and the three bears. Our curriculum letter will be available soon.

Making  Bridges

Story recall

The children enjoyed painting the characters from Goldilocks and the Three Bears, as well as mixing porridge . We also made salt dough gingerbread men in preparation for next week.
