Welcome to Year 5
Home Learning - given Friday due in Wednesday.
PE - Thursday
Children need their planner, reading book and PE kit in school every day
What have Year 5 been up to?
In art, Year 5 have been looking at cities around the world and how their skylines are re-created using art techniques.
In maths, we have been exploring mental strategies for multiplication and division.
Our geography topic this half term is ‘The UK’. This week, the children have used the internet and atlases to carry out their own research on one of the four constituent countries of the UK. They worked in small groups to create a fact file on key geographical features of their chosen country and then presented their findings to the rest of the class.
Halloween is nearly here.
I’ve got my costume planned.
It’s sure to be the most horrific
outfit in the land.
If you should see me coming
you may scream and hide your head.
My get-up will, I guarantee,
fill every heart with dread.
My costume may cause nightmares.
Yes, my mask may stop your heart.
You might just shriek and wet yourself,
then squeamishly depart.
And yet, I won’t be dressing as
you might expect me to.
I will not be a vampire
or ghost that hollers “boo!”
I won’t look like a werewolf
or a goblin or a ghoul,
or even like a slimy blob
of deadly, dripping drool.
I will not be a zombie
or some other horrid creature.
No, this year I’ll be much, much worse…
I’m dressing as a teacher.
— Kenn Nesbitt
We have just completed an English unit on legends. The children enjoyed reading a selection of Arthurian legends and completed the unit by writing their own.
Year 5 had a fantastic time exploring in the wooded area this week. Please ensure your child is wearing suitable clothing and footwear for these sessions which will take place on Wednesday afternoons.
Our class charter is a promise to try and demonstrate good qualities. It’s not just for pupils, but for the teachers too! Our charter is a way to make promises to each other about how we are going to make the most of this year. After much discussion and a vote, as a class we decided that respect, patience, teamwork and kindness were the most important values and qualities to us. We then thought of how we could show these qualities in school and in the classroom.
