Today we watched a very clever show that told the story of The Wizard of Oz. The actor interacted with the actors on the screen to tell the story. We had to help the professor at different points in the story to help Dorothy get to OZ with her friends: the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man.

The children were given a range of sharing problems to solve practically. The counters represented the animals in the problem, they used their boards to represent the farmers' fields.
Problem 1: The farmer has 12 cows, he needs to share them equally in 2 fields.
Problem 2 : 12 cows to be shared in 3 fields
Problem 3: 12 cows to be shared in 4 fields.
Can you see how they worked each problem out?

This week we have been basing our learning around the story of The Gingerbread Man. In English we have been writing instructions to make a gingerbread man. We then followed our instructions to on how to decorate a gingerbread man. For our home learning we designed and labelled the things we would need to decorate our gingerbread. We then got to eat them . Yum!
In Outdoor Learning we used the naturally found objects in the woods to make our own gingerbread people and their houses. It was fantastic linking all our learning.

This week we are learning about capacity. We have explored different containers to find out about capacity. After this we order the containers by their capacity and used our mathematical language to explain this.

This week we are learning about Little Red Riding Hood in our Fairy Tales focus in Literacy. To extend this learning we re-enacted being Little Red Riding Hood in our Outdoor Learning. We went through the woods to Granny's house. While on our journey we looked for faces in the bark on the trees - we have been learning about naming parts of the trees and plants in Science. After we found the faces we used the natural leaf litter in the woods to create our own art faces. Luckily the wolf wasn't around in the woods today.

We linked our Maths and Outdoor Learning today. We were finding out about ordering items by length and height and using mathematical language to explain the order.

In Maths this week the children have been using coins to show their proportional representation.

1/5

Ask your child to show you how they matched the coin value to the Cuisenaire rods.

It was fantastic to see everyone back today. Everyone had a huge smile on their face and enjoyed the day. The children were really excited to find out about flowers in our Science this afternoon. We were able to name the different parts and label them. In addition to this we found tree roots, blossom growing on trees and found flowers that were in bud.

We hope you all enjoyed you Well-Being Wednesday. The children have been really creative in school and at home. I hope you all enjoyed your day away from a screen.

Earlier this term we learnt about remembrance day. In Geography we were learning about addresses and what they mean. To combine our learning we wrote to Sir Captain Tom Moore to thank him for his role in WW2 and for what he has done for the NHS during COVID - we were thrilled to receive a letter in response from him.

Out Door Learning

This week in out door learning the children explored the forest. We looked at all the leaves, sticks and acorns that had fallen from the trees. The children then created their own Nature Crowns and became Kings and Queens of the Forest!

This week we have been thinking about remembrance. We have read the true life a story about a dog called Stubby.

This week we have been basing our learning around Fireworks night and why we celebrate it.

Ask your child about Guy Fawkes - what did he do?

We have been learning a poem about the 5th of November too

click on link 1 to hear the poem.

In science we have been naming and labelling body parts. We worked in groups to make a body outline and then used our phonic knowledge to write the labels to name the parts. After this we shared our learning with each other. We also sang and danced to Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.

Maths
This week we have been leaning about the whole part model. We have been investigating and exploring different numbers to 5 and 10. As a class we have learnt that 2 numbers go together to create a bigger number.

In Science we became animal detectives. We looked at a variety of animal images and had to identify the camouflaged animal. After this we went outside to use our senses to hear and look for animals in our environment. Then the  children made binoculars and telescopes, to help them look carefully at smaller animals in our environment.
