We have been having some fun painting about our different emotions. They can be represented with many different colours!

We have been learning about how Ancient Egyptians mummified the bodies of the Pharaohs. We decided to mummify tomatoes to see how it worked.

Mummified tomatoes

First, we cut a hole in the tomato, then we scooped out all the seeds. We cleaned our tomatoes inside and out with an anti-bacterial wipe to wipe away any bacteria that was on the tomato. We then filled the tomatoes with a mixture of salt and bicarbonate of soda (natron) and put the tomatoes in a tub and poured the rest of the mixture over it.  We kept two control tomatoes as well.

We left them for two weeks to see what would happen!

Decimals can be tricky but we are practising!

The Time-Travelling Cat and the Egyptian Goddess

We are reading The Time travelling cat. Topher and his father are trying to get over the death of Topher's mother, an Egyptologist, when they take in a stray cat. This cat bears an uncanny resemblance to a cat ornament given to Topher by his mother and so they name it 'Ka', meaning 'double'. Topher becomes very attached to Ka and is puzzled by her mysterious absences. One day when he is playing a computer game with an Egyptian theme, Ka jumps on the keys and spells out the name Bubastis, which was the centre of cat worship in Ancient Egypt. Could Ka really be leading a double life and what is she trying to tell Topher?

We have been doing lots of things and one of them is - making and exploding volcanoes!
