Unfortunately, we couldn't have any parents at our sports day this year, but we still had a good time as you can see in the photos below.
In our music lessons we have been learning to read music and play in a band. First, we were given the sheet music for the George Ezra song 'Shotgun'. Then we had to work out which notes we needed to play for the chorus and practise it. The next lesson, we had to use percussion instruments and record on paper the patterns we would play with each instrument in each bar of the song. Finally, we got together in groups of four, rehearsed as a band and played along with the class singing. Below you can see the results that one of the groups achieved.
In our geography lessons we have been learning about the physical geography of Mexico, but some of us got to experience being there in virtual reality when Mr Cox brought in his headset. We explored the capital, called Mexico City, and found out what was on sale in the market. Then we got to choose other places in the country to visit and find out what the scenery was like. We looked for the desert, mountain and rainforest areas that we had been learning about in our lessons.
Who has the best beak?
In our science lessons we have been learning how animals evolve over time to survive better in the environments they live in. We used different objects to simulate the beaks of different birds and tried to pick up different sized objects with each tool. This helped us to imagine which birds would have been able to eat which seeds and where the birds might have survived best.
Although this Christmas may not allow us to perform for parents in the hall, we wanted to share with you a couple of Christmas songs that we sang as a class. We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we hope our songs bring a little Christmas joy to you at this time of the year.
We have just finished our class mosaic which we are really proud of. Every child in the class took a Roman god or goddess and designed a mosaic that depicts them. We studied mosaic borders from ancient Rome and used them as a basis for our own borders. The class selected Tia's design to make into a huge mosaic and everyone contributed to the final piece which is made from several hundred tiles. Take a look below!
This half term we have started our basketball lessons in PE. The first lesson was on passing and moving. As you can see in the photos below, it isn't easy to get the ball off of Scarlett!
What a Scary Bunch!
Today we all got dressed up in our Halloween costumes. All the outfits looked fantastic and it was great to see so many children joining in. Hopefully everyone had a fun day!
This half term we have been learning how to write information texts in our English lessons. Take a look at some of our finished examples below.
Dissecting a Heart
In our science lessons we have been learning about health and circulation. As part of this, we dissected a lamb's heart to look at the chambers, the veins and the arteries. It was a little bit messy but we learned a lot about how our own hearts work.
Recently, we have been learning about volume in our maths lessons. Volume is the amount of space inside a 3D shape. We took some pictures of 3D shapes made out of blocks and we tried to work out how many blocks were needed to build each one. Once we had decided, we made the shape out of cubes to check if we were correct.
After a long break for many children, it was great to welcome the new year six class back to school. We have hit the ground running and are enjoying our new topics. We've already started learning about the Romans and the human heart and circulation. In PE we've started our football lessons and in art we are making mosaics. You can find much more detail about what we will be learning on the curriculum page above.
